Jan Van (de Engel) Angelopoulos and Fotis Siotas have just released "Folks Nowadays" together as a duet, an instrumental, post-traditional, contemporary folk album. The combination of rhythm and melody takes on a new perspective with this set up. The two musicians filter rhythmic and melodic elements mainly found in traditional music from the wider Northern Greek region, transforming them into a personal experience that connects the past and present, the familiar with the unexpected. Developing and reinforcing the idea of a duo limitation with the addition of analogue and modular synthesizers to the sound of violin and drums the live set incorporates elements from the current dance culture. An extra layer of complexity to the soundscape is achieved by the process of the natural sources with live effects, enhancing the music with a trippy trance quality.
