Burek duo’s unique combination of instruments creates a distinctive soundscape, which is both lyrical and playful. Having melody as their main focus they create colourful arrangements, which are framed by improvisation and intuitive interplay. Oud player Andreas Krambias from Cyprus and cellist Maria Doumeni Cronholm from Sweden, with Greek roots met in Thessaloniki in 2019, where they started their collaboration. The duo makes the most of both musicians' different musical backgrounds - this comes across not only in their choice of repertoire, but also their arrangements. Burek Duo play folk music from Greece, Cyprus and Sweden, as well as Ottoman classical music. In all of these areas you can also find the pastry Burek. It varies widely in style and seasoning, just like Burek Duo’s music. In 2021 they released their first album ‘ISKIOS’.
